Bough is built local-first. The app collects nothing about you or your work. The only personal data we ever hold is an email address — and only if you choose to give us one.
The app
Bough is a native desktop application. Your documents are stored as OPML files on your own disk, in locations you choose. The contents of your files never leave your machine. Bough has no built-in analytics, no telemetry, and no account system. It does not track how you use it, and it does not require an internet connection to work.
The one exception is license activation. When you activate a purchased license, Bough makes a single online check to verify your license key with our payment provider. After that one check, the app runs entirely offline and never needs to contact a server again.
The waitlist
If you enter your email on this site, it is stored by our email provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit), so we can email you when Bough is available and, occasionally, about the product. We don’t sell, rent, or share your address, and we don’t use it for anything else. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Purchases
When Bough goes on sale, purchases will be handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. They process your payment and issue your license key under their own privacy policy. We never see or store your full payment details.
This website
The site is a set of static pages. It carries no advertising trackers. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and standard server logs may record basic request information (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability, as is typical for any website.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time using the link in any message.
- Ask us to delete the email address we hold for you.
- Keep, move, or delete your Bough files yourself — they’re yours, in an open format, wherever you put them.
